Mr. Goddard approaches the end of his service as a member of the Wake
County Human Services Board of Directors as both its longest tenured member,
and its lone founding member from 1996 when the agencies and boards were
first joined. . . .
Mr. Goddard began his service to Wake County in the early 1990’s on the
Clients Rights Committee of the mental health board, as well as its Rights
Restrictions Subcommittee. He has served on the current Board’s Human Rights
Committee since 1996, serving a tenure as Chair. Mr. Goddard has been active
throughout this time period in the local chapter of the National Alliance on
Mental Illness. He has also worked with a local support group for consumers,
served as president of the NC Mental Health Consumers Organization, and
served on the Human Rights Committee of Dorothea Dix Hospital - two years as
Chair.
He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his volunteer service
through the years. His stance for the richest community opportunities and the
best treatment practices for people struggling iwth mental illnesses has been
publicly on display in print, on television, and in freqent talks with [public
officials]. His service and dedication to the people of Wake County through the
Wake County Human Services Board will be sorely missed.
